Corporate Social
Responsibility
Here at 10ticks, we combine expertise, ingenuity and passion to support learners and teachers of maths all over the globe.
Despite only being a small business, we have had a huge impact on communities up and down the UK. Our commitment to operate ethically and sustainably is unparalleled, and this has driven us to deliver on key CSR initiatives.
In May/June 2024, we were involved in the naming of London Zoo’s newborn Asiatic lion cubs.
This is because our sponsor, Liontrust, who also have a partnership arrangement with London Zoo, came to us to help to run a competition for UK primary school children.
The children were tasked with submitting a name suggestion for the cubs, along with a reason as to why they chose this name. We received so many wonderful suggestions that made it very difficult to shortlist the top 10, but luckily that wasn’t our job! We passed the name suggestions back to Liontrust and London Zoo, who then shortlisted their top 10 names.
The 10 names were then put to a public vote in The Times newspaper, and the three names that received the most votes were designated to the cubs.
The three winners were:
• Kiana (child name) from Brookfield Primary School, with Mali (cub name).
Kiana’s reasoning was “Because I personally think it is a great name to express the nature of the critically endangered Asiatic Lions.”
• Chioma (child name), from Blessed Dominic Catholic Primary School, with Syanii (cub name).
Chioma’s reasoning was “Firstly, I chose this name because I really liked both the names ‘sya’ and ‘savani’ so I decided to combine one another and I got the name Syanii! From my research on Asiatic lions, I found out that their scientific name is Panthera Leo persica. Pronounced: sigh-ya-ni.”
• Diya (child name) from Bushey Heath Primary School, with Shanti (cub name).
Diya’s reasoning was because “Shanti directly translates to peace in the language Gujarati, an Indian language. It is a gender-neutral name and Asiatic lions originate from the Gir Forest, India. It is generally a peaceful area too. They often create a tranquil environment by performing actions such as licking as well.”
In 2020, we gained sponsorship from Liontrust Asset Management, allowing us to deliver the 10ticks Online Worksheet Licence and 10ticks Mental Maths completely free of charge for all UK state-funded schools!
As an additional means of supporting schools, thanks to sponsorship from Liontrust, we've orchestrated competitions offering enticing cash prizes for schools. These competitions always attract enthusiastic participation, with Loanends Primary School, the winner of the November 2022 competition, even hosting Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Billy Webb, for a firsthand look at pupils engaging with the system.
